John Hofstetter has a long-standing career in the visual arts. He is a graduate of the Fine Arts programme at the University of Waterloo, and studied ceramics at Sheridan College of Craft and Design. His experience includes printmaking, sculptural ceramics, public sculpture, and graphic design. Photography, assemblage and site-specific sculptural installations are the primary activities of John’s current art practice. His photographic and assemblage work examines the interactions between cultural and natural artefacts and their environment. Sculptural work and installations are an instinctual response to landscape, with form and content influenced by collected objects and materials. He continues to find inspiration in the landscape and cultural history of Newfoundland where he has maintained a summer home and studio since 1977.
