John Hofstetter
John Hofstetter is a graduate of the Fine Arts programme at the University of Waterloo, where his major areas of study were printmaking and sculpture. He studied ceramics at Sheridan College of Craft and Design and taught a number of courses at the University of Waterloo including colour theory, printmaking and graphic design. He has also enjoyed a long standing career in graphic design.
His sculpture has an industrial aesthetic but is softened by the subtle integration of organic design elements.
Richly textured surfaces and muted colour are signature features of his work. His hand crafted stoneware tiles incorporate the texture and form of industrial artifacts creating a novel approach to decorative tile.
The inspiration for much of his work can be found in the landscape of coastal Newfoundland where he maintains a summer home.
John has exhibited his artwork throughout North America and his work is represented in public and private collections. He has produced interpretive and 'to specification' sculptural commissions since 1990.
